All metals immersed in an electrolyte, like sea water, produce an electrical current. When two dissimilar metals are in contact they produce a galvanic cell (like a battery), with the less noble metal (like Aluminum or Zinc) forming the anode and the more noble metal (such as Stainless Steel) forming the cathode.
